1. Butter Tarts
A classic Canadian dessert – flaky pastry shell filled with a rich, sweet filling.
Ingredients (for 6–8 tarts):
Tart Shell (Pastry):
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cold butter (cubed)
2–3 tbsp cold water
A pinch of salt
Filling:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup raisins or chopped pecans (optional)
1/4 cup corn syrup or honey
Instructions:
1. Mix flour, salt, and cold butter. Add water gradually to form a dough. Chill for 30 minutes.
2. Roll and shape into small tart shells using a muffin or tart pan.
3. Mix all filling ingredients and pour into the shells.
4. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbling.

2. Tourtière (Meat Pie)
A traditional savory meat pie from Quebec, usually served during holidays.
Ingredients:
500g ground beef or pork
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt, pepper, cinnamon, allspice – to taste
1 small boiled and mashed potato (optional)
2 pie crusts (top and bottom)
1 egg (for brushing)
Instructions:
1. In a pan, cook the ground meat with onion and garlic until browned. Add spices and mashed potato.
2. Line a pie dish with one crust, fill with the meat mixture, and cover with the second crust.
3. Seal edges, brush with beaten egg, and cut small slits on top.
